Does anyone else love New Year’s Resolutions? Every year I look forward to resetting my goals and feeling inspired again. This is the first year that I have my blog as a platform to share some of my resolutions so I thought I’d write them out. I’d love to hear your resolutions or any advice that you may have for me to help keep these resolutions!
My 2018 Resolutions:
Read the entire Bible.
This is a goal I have made several times but have never fully committed. This year I will be using a daily walk bible that has a designated passage for each day to help you read 365 days of the year. I have already started reading this week to give myself a little head start and some cushion for when I inevitably fall behind.
Each time I have tried to read the entire bible I start in Genesis (the first book of the bible) and therefor I have read it about 20 times. This year I plan to start a little further in and make my way back to Genesis at a later point, to keep myself from giving up out of boredom. Through this process I also want to take the time to reflect on what I’m reading. When it comes to reading the bible, I like to remember what Pastor Rick Warren said that “it’s not how much you get through the bible, it’s how much the bible gets through you.”
Grow my blog.
This is super broad, but I have very specific goals for my blog that I won’t go into here (for your benefit). The general gist of it is that I want to commit to writing more often and working with more brands and hotels as well. In 2017 I laid the foundation for my blog, and 2018 will be the year that it comes to life.
Wake up earlier.
My poor husband has to deal with me hitting snooze every morning and this year I am putting an end to that terrible habit. I have been doing a lot of reading about how to wake up earlier and have already started implementing some strategies. During my extra time in the mornings I plan to: journal, read, work on my blog and possibly work out.
Enjoy my 9-5, Monday through Friday life.
This past year I became very aware of the fact that I was living for the weekend, and the time in between was spent working, eating and sleeping with nothing much in between. I started to realize that Monday through Friday makes up the majority of our lives, and I don’t want to waste mine because I’m exhausted from a long day of work. This year I’m excited to fill my days with more, even if it’s something as small as taking a walk on the beach before driving home from work or going to Starbucks with my husband to read together in the evenings.
What I’m Proud of from 2017:
- I invested in myself. I purchased my domain name, purchased a blog theme (2 actually) and a professional camera. As a naturally stingy person it can be hard to spend money on expensive things. I am proud that I saw enough value in my blog to invest in it financially.
- I shared my work with others. Fear of rejection is a major theme in my life and work. I took small steps this year. I first shared that I had a blog with my Snapchat followers (all 30 of them). The positive feedback I received was so encouraging that I began to share in other places too. I shared my blog on my Instagram and even began talking about it with co-workers. In 2018 I hope that I can continue to be brave about sharing this passion of mine.
- I reached out to brands and companies. For most of us it is so easy to watch other social media influencers working with great brands and think that it just fell in their lap. Upon further research I learned that a lot of these collaborations stem from the blogger reaching out first. I decided to try my hand and sent out some emails (by some I mean dozens). To my surprise, I received a lot of responses. I even got to work with an amazing resort and do an instagram takeover for their account! Some said no thank you. That’s when I learned that the worst thing they can do is either say no, or ignore me – both of which aren’t the end of the world.
Let me know some of your New Year’s Resolutions in the comments below! I’d love to hear from you and thanks so much for your support!
